On the occasion of Shaheed Diwas on March 23, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, remembering their role in India’s independence movement and the lasting legacy of their martyrdom.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described the three revolutionaries as “brave sons of Bharat Mata” whose sacrifice continues to be etched in the nation’s collective memory. He highlighted that despite their young age, they demonstrated extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to the cause of India’s freedom.
Modi noted that the trio remained undeterred by the might of colonial rule and chose the path of sacrifice with conviction, placing the nation above their own lives. He added that their ideals of justice, patriotism and fearless resistance continue to inspire generations of Indians.
Shaheed Diwas is observed every year on March 23 to mark the execution of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev by British authorities in 1931. The day holds historical significance as a reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence.
