Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveils party manifesto in Guwahati, outlining key promises and vision for the state

The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled its election manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, at a programme held in Guwahati, marking a significant step in its preparations for the upcoming state elections. The document, which outlines the party’s vision and commitments, was formally released by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the BJP’s state headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan, in the presence of senior leaders and party workers.

Among those attending the event were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, underscoring the importance the party has placed on the manifesto ahead of the electoral contest. State BJP President Dilip Saikia opened the programme with a welcome address, highlighting the party’s organisational efforts and engagement with voters in the run-up to the elections.

The ‘Sankalp Patra’, a term used by the BJP for its election manifesto, sets out the party’s proposed policies, development agenda and governance priorities. Party leaders indicated that the document has been prepared after consultations and feedback from various sections of society, aiming to reflect local aspirations and address key issues facing the state. Although detailed provisions were not elaborated at the event, the manifesto is expected to cover areas such as infrastructure, welfare initiatives, employment and economic growth.

Election manifestos play a central role in shaping campaign narratives, offering voters a framework to evaluate competing political visions. In Assam, where development, identity and economic opportunities have been recurring themes in recent elections, the release of the ‘Sankalp Patra’ is likely to form a key part of the BJP’s outreach strategy. The document provides voters with an indication of the party’s priorities if it is returned to power, while also setting the stage for political debate in the weeks leading up to polling.

With the manifesto now in the public domain, the BJP is expected to intensify its campaign across the state, focusing on both its past record and future commitments. As election activity gathers pace, attention will turn to how effectively parties communicate their agendas and respond to voter concerns, which are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the electoral outcome.
