New Delhi, June 17, 2025 – India took a big step forward on May 27, 2025, by approving the plan to build its first-ever fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, called the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). This super-smart jet, led by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), will make India one of the few countries in the world to create such an advanced plane. With ₹15,000 crore set aside to start, the AMCA will compete with top jets like China’s J-20 and America’s F-35. It’s a proud moment for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), as this jet will be made in India to protect our skies. With tensions in the region and the Indian Air Force (IAF) needing new planes, people are excited, and X is full of cheers for India’s new sky hero!

What Makes AMCA Special?
The AMCA is not just any plane—it’s a super-smart, stealthy jet that can do many jobs, like fighting enemy planes, attacking ground targets, and spying without being seen. Here’s why it’s awesome:
- Hard to Spot: Its special shape and materials make it almost invisible to enemy radars, like a ghost in the sky.
- Super Fast: It can fly faster than sound without using extra fuel, so it can go far and stay longer.
- Smart Tech: It uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help pilots make quick decisions, with high-tech sensors to share info with other planes and soldiers.
- Strong Weapons: It hides missiles and bombs inside to stay stealthy, carrying enough to take on tough enemies.
- Long Flights: It holds 6.5 tonnes of fuel, so it can fly far without stopping.
The AMCA will replace old IAF planes like the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI and work with the Tejas Mk-2. Right now, the IAF has only 31 squadrons (groups of planes) but needs 42, so the AMCA is super important to keep India safe, especially with China and Pakistan getting stronger planes.
Why Did India Approve It?
The AMCA plan started years ago, but it got a big push recently because:
- China’s Strength: China has over 200 J-20 stealth jets and plans for 1,000 by 2030. They’ve placed some near India’s borders, like in Tibet.
- Pakistan’s Plans: Pakistan is trying to buy 40 J-35A stealth jets from China, which could challenge India.
- Old Planes: The IAF’s MiG-21s and Jaguars are too old, and we need modern jets to stay strong.
In March 2024, PM Narendra Modi’s team approved ₹15,000 crore for the project. On May 27, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gave the final go-ahead, letting private companies join the work instead of just Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This will make things faster and better. PM Modi said on X, “We’re making India stronger by building our own defense equipment.”

How Will It Be Made?
The AMCA is a team effort to make India proud:
- Engines: The first version, AMCA Mk1, will use GE F414 engines from the US, like those in Tejas Mk-2. India will make most of these engines at home. The Mk2 will have a stronger 110 kN engine made in India with help from companies like France’s Safran or UK’s Rolls-Royce.
- Private Companies: Big Indian firms like Tata, Larsen & Toubro, and Mahindra will help build parts, making it quicker than past projects.
- Foreign Help: India will work with countries like Israel for tech gadgets and France for stealth materials to make the jet world-class.
- Local Parts: About 70% of the AMCA will be made in India, using supplies from small businesses that also help build Tejas.
Dr. Krishna Rajendra Neeli, who leads the AMCA project, told The Hindu, “This jet will be as good as or better than the world’s best stealth planes.”

When Will It Fly?
Here’s the plan:
- 2028: The first AMCA will fly as a test plane.
- 2030: It will be ready for small-scale use.
- 2035: The IAF will get seven squadrons (126 jets) for full action.
But there are some challenges:
- Engine Trouble: Building a super-strong engine takes time, and we might need US engines for a while.
- Slow Building: HAL took years with Tejas, but private companies should help speed things up.
- New Tech: Making stealth and AI tech is hard, but working with other countries will make it easier.
- Fast Rivals: China is already working on even newer jets, so India needs to hurry.
Why Is AMCA a Big Deal?
The AMCA will change things for India:
- World-Class Club: Only the US, China, and Russia make fifth-gen jets. India will be the fourth, making us a big player globally.
- Made in India: It supports Atmanirbhar Bharat by using Indian companies, cutting down on buying foreign planes.
- Jobs and Growth: It will create thousands of jobs and help India build cool tech like AI and stealth materials.
- Strong Defense: The AMCA will protect India from China’s J-20s and Pakistan’s new jets, keeping our skies safe.
It could even be sold to other countries one day, like how Tejas is going to Malaysia and Egypt, helping India earn money.
What People Are Saying
On X, Indians are super excited. @MeghUpdates called it “a huge win for India’s air force,” and @Indian_Analyzer said, “AMCA will beat China’s J-20!” Some, like @VivekSi85847001, want it built faster, remembering Tejas took a long time. IAF chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh said, “AMCA will make us stronger than our enemies.” The jet’s name, inspired by the Amar Chakra from Hindu stories, means “eternal strength,” which makes people proud.
What’s Next?
- Finding Partners: ADA will soon ask private companies to join the project.
- Engine Deal: India will pick a country to help make the 110 kN engine.
- Building Planes: Work on five test jets will speed up for a 2028 flight.
- More Jets: The IAF will also get 180 Tejas Mk-1A and other new planes to hit 42 squadrons by 2035.
A Bright Future
The AMCA is a big deal for India’s defense and pride. It’s our chance to show the world we can build a jet as good as the best. With China and Pakistan getting stronger, the AMCA will keep India safe. As one X user said, “From Tejas to AMCA, India’s flying high!” Our sky hero is coming, and it’s a moment to celebrate!
