Guntur, June 18, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh’s politics turned tense on Tuesday when Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader, held a big rally in Palnadu district, even though police told him to keep it small. Jagan went to Rentapalla village to support the family of a YSRCP worker who died by suicide, but the day ended in sadness with two of his supporters losing their lives. Jagan blamed the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, for “unfair attacks” on his party. New claims from Jagan’s sister, Y.S. Sharmila, and an old liquor scam case have made things even messier, with people on X arguing loudly about Andhra’s future.
Jagan’s Big Rally in Palnadu
Jagan visited Rentapalla to meet the family of Korlakunta Nagamalleswara Rao, a YSRCP worker and former village leader who died by suicide on June 9, 2024. Jagan said TDP leaders and police harassed Rao, pushing him to take his life. The Palnadu police were worried about trouble, especially after fights during Jagan’s June 17 visit to Prakasam, so they allowed only 100 people and three vehicles for the rally. But thousands of YSRCP supporters showed up, waving flags and throwing rose petals at Jagan’s convoy on the Etukuru flyover. Jagan put up a statue for Rao and promised to fight for “justice.”
Sadly, the rally turned tragic. Cheeli Singaiah, a 53-year-old YSRCP supporter, was hit by a vehicle in Jagan’s convoy near Etukuru, Guntur, and died. Police said he fell and got hit by accident, but YSRCP leaders blamed the big crowd. Later, Jayavardhan Reddy, a businessman from Sattenapalli, fainted at a public meeting and died at Guntur Government Hospital, likely from heat and too many people. On X, @Telugu360 said Jagan’s team didn’t plan the rally well, and @JaiTDP called Jagan “careless” for breaking police rules, using hashtags like “#PsychoFekuJagan.”
Jagan Blames TDP for “Unfair Rule”
In Rentapalla, Jagan spoke angrily against Naidu’s TDP government. He said:
- TDP and Janasena leaders filed fake cases against Rao and other YSRCP leaders like Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Kodali Nani, and Avinash Reddy, scaring them.
- Andhra is now “full of chaos” because Naidu cares more about attacking YSRCP than helping people. Jagan said TDP broke promises like free bus rides for women and let crime grow. He asked supporters to call June 4 “betrayal day” to protest TDP’s rule. TDP’s Home Minister V. Anitha said Rao’s death was due to betting losses, not TDP’s actions. On X, @JaiTDP accused Jagan of “playing politics with deaths” and said he faces 31 cases from CBI and ED. This shows how divided people are in Andhra.
Sharmila’s Shocking Claim
Things got worse when Jagan’s sister, Y.S. Sharmila, who leads Andhra Pradesh Congress, said on June 18 that Jagan’s YSRCP government (2019–2024) worked with Telangana’s then-CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao to listen to phone calls of rivals, including hers, after she started her own party in 2021. Sharmila asked Naidu and Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy to investigate. This family fight has people talking, with some on X, like @greatandhranews, saying it’s a plan by Congress and TDP to hurt Jagan. Jagan hasn’t replied yet, but this could make him look bad.
Liquor Scam Trouble Grows
On the same day, police arrested Jagan’s close aide, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, at Bengaluru Airport, as shared by @ndtv on X. An April 2025 report said Jagan was behind a liquor scam, getting ₹60 crore every month from liquor companies during his rule. Another aide, K. Rajasekhar Reddy, forced companies to pay 20% of their earnings, and the money was hidden using fake bills. Other YSRCP leaders were named too. On X, @PJRaghuRanjith made fun of Jagan’s “honest” image, but YSRCP fans said it’s just TDP trying to trap him.
Jagan’s Plan and People’s Views
Even with these problems, Jagan’s rally showed he’s still popular. Thousands came to support him, with women in Sattenapalli shouting, “Jagan anna, we’re with you!” as reported by The Hindu. Jagan’s plan is to:

The Palnadu rally shows how tense Andhra’s politics are. Jagan’s bold move against police rules could lead to more fights, especially in TDP areas like Palnadu, known for political clashes.
