The Department of Posts has introduced three new time-bound postal services aimed at enhancing delivery efficiency across major urban centres. Union Minister for Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, officially launched the services—‘24 Speed Post’, ‘24 Speed Post Parcel’, and ‘48 Speed Post’—from New Delhi.
Marking the rollout at the regional level, a launch event was also आयोजित at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s College auditorium in King Koti, Hyderabad, signalling the city’s inclusion in the first phase of implementation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal, Chief Postmaster General, Telangana Circle, described the initiative as a significant milestone in the evolution of India Post. She highlighted that the organization is adapting to changing market demands to better serve both retail and bulk customers. According to her, the new services are currently available in six metro cities—Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.
Providing operational details, Dr. Dermal stated that in Hyderabad, 38 booking offices and 94 delivery offices will manage ‘24 Speed Post’ and ‘24 Speed Post Parcel’ services, while ‘48 Speed Post’ will be handled through 176 booking offices and 94 delivery centres. All consignments under these services will receive priority handling to ensure timely delivery.
The ‘24 Speed Post’ service is designed for documents, offering guaranteed next-day delivery, while ‘24 Speed Post Parcel’ caters to parcels weighing up to 5 kilograms with assured delivery within 24 hours. The ‘48 Speed Post’ service ensures document delivery within 48 hours. In case of delays, India Post has announced a refund policy, subject to applicable conditions.
The newly launched services also come with a range of customer-centric features, including specialized packaging, end-to-end tracking with SMS alerts, ‘Book Now, Pay Later’ options, free pickup services for business clients, OTP-based secure delivery, and API integration for seamless logistics support.
The Hyderabad launch event was attended by several senior officials, including Ms. Sumitha Ayodhya, Postmaster General, Hyderabad Region; Smt. N. R. Visalatchi, Postmaster General, Headquarters Region; Sri Sampar, Director of Postal Accounts, Telangana Circle; Smt. Rippan Dullet, Director of Postal Services, Headquarters; and Sri Y. Naresh, Director of Postal Services (HR).
