Ayush Ministry Expands Digital Platforms, Awareness Campaigns and Training under National Ayush Mission
The Government of India is taking significant steps to strengthen and modernize the AYUSH healthcare system through digital innovation, community outreach, and workforce training, the Ministry of AYUSH informed Parliament.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Shri Pratap Rao Jadhav, stated that the Ministry has developed digital platforms such as the Ayush Hospital Management Information System (AHMIS) under the Ayush Grid. These platforms are aimed at digitizing inventories and enabling real-time tracking of medicine availability across AYUSH healthcare facilities, assisting both doctors and pharmacists in improving service delivery.
Under the National Ayush Mission (NAM), the government is also actively supporting State and Union Territory administrations in implementing Behavior Change Communication (BCC) and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) initiatives. These campaigns are designed to raise public awareness about the benefits of AYUSH systems and promote preventive healthcare practices through mass media and community outreach.
As part of these efforts, structured public health programmes are being conducted, including health camps and awareness drives. These initiatives aim to address various public health concerns by leveraging AYUSH-based treatments, while also ensuring proper referral linkages with other healthcare facilities. The programmes focus on delivering preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services, either independently or alongside conventional medical systems.
The Minister highlighted that approximately 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Ayush) have been made operational across the country under the NAM scheme. These centers play a key role in delivering grassroots healthcare services and spreading awareness about AYUSH practices.
To further strengthen the system, the Ministry has organized Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes for healthcare workers, including ASHA and ANM personnel. These frontline workers are being equipped with knowledge of AYUSH practices to guide communities in maintaining general wellness and preventing common illnesses.
In collaboration with the Central Health Education Bureau (CHEB), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ministry also conducted Master Trainer programmes in 2024 and 2025. These sessions focused on the management of musculoskeletal and metabolic disorders using AYUSH systems, with participation from medical officers specializing in Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, and Siddha across all States and Union Territories.
Additionally, financial assistance is being provided under NAM’s flexible component for training and capacity building of teaching staff, medical officers, and paramedical personnel in AYUSH institutions and healthcare facilities. States and UTs can access this support through their State Annual Action Plans, as per the scheme’s guidelines.
The Ministry is also implementing a Central Sector Scheme titled AYURGYAN, which includes provisions for capacity building and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of AYUSH professionals.
The government reiterated that the National Ayush Mission continues to be implemented in coordination with States and Union Territories, with financial support extended for a range of activities, including awareness campaigns and infrastructure development, to promote the adoption and integration of AYUSH systems across the country.
