The Government of India has reported significant financial support and measurable outcomes under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) in Andhra Pradesh, highlighting steady investments and notable growth in indigenous cattle populations.

According to data shared in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, funds released under the mission from 2014–15 to 2025–26 show consistent allocation and full utilization in most years.

The highest funding was recorded in 2021–22 at ₹5,652.39 lakh, followed by ₹3,538.38 lakh in 2023–24 and ₹3,184.16 lakh in 2024–25. Earlier years also saw steady allocations, including ₹3,181.38 lakh in 2020–21 and ₹1,899.81 lakh in 2018–19. Notably, no funds were released in 2015–16, and while ₹1,500 lakh has been allocated for 2025–26 so far, utilization is yet to be reported.

Under the mission, a total of 16 Gokul Grams were established in Andhra Pradesh. However, this component has been discontinued under the revised and realigned Rashtriya Gokul Mission framework for the period 2021–22 to 2025–26.

The mission has also contributed to a substantial rise in indigenous bovine populations. At the national level, the population of pure indigenous breeds increased by 29.99% between the 2013 and 2022 breed surveys. Andhra Pradesh recorded an even sharper rise of 62.11% during the same period, reflecting the impact of focused interventions by both the Central and State governments.

Officials attribute this growth to sustained efforts under schemes like the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, aimed at conserving and developing indigenous cattle breeds, improving productivity, and strengthening the rural dairy economy.

The government reiterated its commitment to promoting indigenous breeds and enhancing livestock-based livelihoods across the country.
