Senior BJP leader campaigns for party candidate in Central Guwahati, drawing large crowds along key city route
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday led a large roadshow in Guwahati as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, underscoring the party’s push to strengthen its presence in key urban constituencies. The event was held in the Central Guwahati Assembly segment, where Shah campaigned in support of BJP candidate Vijay Gupta.
The roadshow commenced from Arya Vidyapeeth College and proceeded towards Nepali Mandir, with large numbers of party workers, supporters and local residents lining the route. Crowds gathered along the streets to catch a glimpse of the senior leader, reflecting the heightened political activity in the city as the election campaign gathers pace.
Shah’s appearance is part of the BJP’s broader outreach strategy in Assam, where the party has been deploying senior leaders to engage directly with voters through public events such as rallies and roadshows. These campaign efforts are aimed at mobilising support, energising party workers and reinforcing the party’s organisational strength in constituencies considered electorally significant.
The Central Guwahati constituency holds strategic importance in the state’s political landscape, and high-profile campaigning is expected to influence voter engagement in the region. Roadshows, a common feature of Indian election campaigns, allow political leaders to connect with large sections of the public in a short span of time while showcasing grassroots support.
With the Assam Assembly elections approaching, political parties are intensifying their campaigns across the state, focusing on local issues, governance and development promises. Shah’s visit signals the BJP’s continued emphasis on consolidating its voter base as the electoral contest enters a crucial phase.
