The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is set to organize a two-day capacity building workshop in Patna, Bihar, on March 18–19, 2026, aimed at strengthening data systems and promoting evidence-based policymaking. The workshop will focus on key areas including monitoring frameworks for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), compilation of environment accounts, and gender statistics.

The event is being co-organised in collaboration with the Government of Bihar, with technical support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India. It reflects MoSPI’s continued efforts to enhance the quality, robustness, and reliability of statistical data used in governance and development planning.

The workshop will bring together representatives from various line ministries, State and Union Territory departments, and international agencies. Participants will engage in discussions on critical issues, share best practices, and explore strategies to strengthen statistical frameworks across sectors.

Senior dignitaries are expected to attend the workshop, including the Hon’ble Minister of Planning and Development, Government of Bihar, the Secretary of MoSPI, and the Chief Secretary of Bihar. Officials from MoSPI, the Bihar government, and representatives from UN agencies will also be present.

The first day of the workshop will focus on Sustainable Development Goals and gender statistics. Discussions will include the National Indicator Framework (NIF) and State Indicator Framework, with an emphasis on aligning SDG indicators for improved monitoring and governance. Experts and stakeholders will deliberate on how SDG data can be leveraged beyond monitoring to support evidence-based decision-making.

A dedicated session on gender statistics will highlight their role in advancing women-led development and strengthening institutional mechanisms for gender-responsive governance. Participants will share insights and experiences on improving gender data systems to better inform policy interventions.

The second day will concentrate on environmental statistics and accounting. Key discussions will cover the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) framework, as well as methodologies for valuing forest resources, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. States will present their experiences in compiling environmental accounts, while experts will provide insights into improving environmental data systems.

The workshop is expected to serve as a significant platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity enhancement, reinforcing the role of high-quality data in achieving sustainable and inclusive development goals.
