Debutants shine with the ball as Hyderabad ends Rajasthan’s winning streak with a dominant performance
Hyderabad, April 14: Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a comprehensive all-round display to defeat Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs in the Indian Premier League 2026 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday, halting Rajasthan’s run of victories.
Batting first, Hyderabad posted a strong total of 216 for 6 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan led the innings with a well-crafted 91, combining aggression with control to anchor the scoring. Heinrich Klaasen provided valuable support with a quick 40, helping the team push past the 200-run mark and set a challenging target.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals suffered an early collapse that effectively decided the outcome of the match. Debutant pacer Prafull Hinge made an immediate impact, taking three wickets in the opening over. His early strikes removed key top-order batters and put Rajasthan under severe pressure from the outset. He later dismissed captain Riyan Parag, further deepening the crisis.
At one stage, Rajasthan found themselves struggling at 9 for 5, leaving the middle order with a daunting task. Saqib Hussain, another debutant, compounded their problems by picking up four wickets, including that of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, ensuring Hyderabad maintained control throughout the innings.
Despite the early setbacks, Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja mounted a strong resistance with a 118-run partnership. Ferreira scored 69 while Jadeja added 45, briefly reviving hopes of a comeback. However, the steep target and early damage proved too much, and Rajasthan were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.
Hinge finished with impressive figures of 4 for 34, while Hussain returned 4 for 24, marking a memorable debut for both bowlers. Their performances were central to Hyderabad’s convincing victory.
The win marks Hyderabad’s second success in five matches this season, helping them move up the points table and regain momentum in the tournament. For Rajasthan Royals, the defeat brings an end to their winning streak and highlights concerns around their top-order stability.
With the tournament progressing into a crucial phase, Hyderabad will look to build on this performance, while Rajasthan will aim to regroup quickly and address their early-innings vulnerabilities in upcoming matches.
